How can chiropractic help with pregnancy?

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is
safe for both mother and child.
Many pregnant women find chiropractic to be a good alternative to medications
that may risk the health of their unborn baby.

The effects of chiropractic for the pregnant woman can be:
- Decreased back, neck and hip pain
- Enhanced immune system
- Prepare the body for birth and after
- Easier and safer pregnancy and delivery

There are may benefits of chiropractic care for women who are pregnant
Some of the potential benefits according to the American Pregnancy  Association include:
"Maintaining a healthier pregnancy, controlling symptoms of nausea, reducing the time of labor and delivery,
relieving back, neck or joint pain, and prevent a potential cesarean section."

Back Pain
Many women experience some type of back or neck pain during pregnancy.
This may be caused by the changes that are happening bio-mechanically to the body during pregnancy.
These changes include an increased load on the spine, legs and feet from the extra weight of the baby, relaxation of ligaments through
the body and widening of the pelvis in preparation for the birth process. Chiropractic can help to alleviate these complaints.

Comfortable Adjustments
The use of bolsters or supports can be shaped to easily accommodate the changing shape of a woman’s body through all stages of pregnancy.
This allows for treatment to be comfortable and safe for both the mother and child.

Baby Positioning
With the Webster technique, chiropractic can help to balance the muscles and ligaments of the pelvis and uterus to allow for the baby to get
into the correct position for birth. Chiropractic can help uterus torsion in pregnancy and before birth assist in an easier and safer delivery.

Postural Changes
Postural changes occur during pregnancy and in combination with the increased weight of the new fetus add more stress to the body.
Conscious changes can be made to ones posture in order to avoid any discomfort during pregnancy,
breast feeding and parenthood.
